Following the surprise hit that was Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (Game Freaks 365 named it Game of the Year Runner-Up in 2007), Sony commissioned Naughty Dog to take another stab at the franchise. Nathan Drake is back in another fortune-hunting adventure as he seeks out the lost fleet of Marco Polo and the lost city of Shambhala in the Himalayas. Will Drake survive the trip that 17 of Marco Polo’s ships were lost to?
Uncharted will will expand the number of characters, including a new love interest for Drake. A number of new varied locations will be explored from dense urban environments to the ice-capped Himalayas, as well as lush green jungles. No load times are visible as is Naughty Dog’s signature. Major improvements to an already good-looking lighting system, animation as well as physics are all a part of the package.
The biggest difference between Uncharted and Uncharted 2 is the addition of a multi-player element. The gameplay mechanics are the same as the single player. Competitive multi-player allows for up to ten players in heroes-vs.-villains matches. Deathmatch is a requisite for any game of this type and Uncharted supports 5 vs. 5 modes that are fully customizable to meet the needs of the party playing the game. Finally, there is a co-op element that supports up to three people working together on objectives.
Uncharted 2 was one of the biggest draws at E3 2009. Not any surprise why, considering how great of a game the first one was. An explosive single player looking for the treasure that Marco Polo could not return home, along with a multi-player aspect that includes online co-op is a sure fire hit. If you aren’t sold yet, just watch the trailer above and that will do the job. Look for Nathan Drake’s return to the PS3 this fall.
