Verizon Announcing iPhone on Tuesday

Verizon will soon have the iPhone. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company plans to announce Apple’s mobile device at a press event in New York on Tuesday. Verizon has largely relied upon smartphones based on Google’s Android OS. That will begin to change when the iPhone launches.

Rival ATandT has had a monopoly on iPhones since its June 2007 launch. Many users have expressed dissatisfaction with spotty service and over-priced plans. A recent Consumer Reports survey found that ATandT was the least liked cell phone carrier. Having Verizon offer the iPhone will undoubtedly result in defection from ATandT, but also holds the potential for substantial growth among the company’s existing consumer base.
