Ubisoft today announced Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, an upcoming free-to-play first-person shooter that combines fast-paced 6-v-6 arena combat with faction-based abilities. Full crossplay is expected at launch.
It’s unusual to meet someone who enjoys video games but is unfamiliar with Tom Clancy’s universe. The Tom Clancy universe has become an important part of Ubisoft’s history and a reference for tactical shooters and immersive universes over the last 21 years.
Now, following the success of the most recent games, including Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft announces the expansion of the Tom Clancy universe with a game developed out of Ubisoft San Francisco. The project is led by seasoned FPS expert Mark Rubin with Ubisoft San Francisco veteran Jason Schroeder. It will allow fans to play with – and against – some of the most recognizable maverick groups from across fan-favorite franchises.
A completely new Tom Clancy’s experience
XDefiant adds a new dimension to Tom Clancy’s games. “Defiants” are factions and characters that draw inspiration from Tom Clancy games and beyond. XDefiant has something for everyone, whether they want to play competitively or casually.
The game is a colorful cross between Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Warzone, Sunset Overdrive, and The Division 2. XDefiant is a Ubisoft Original that offers players a high-octane gameplay experience by combining fluid and visceral combat with unprecedented freedom and personalization. The game will immerse players in the Tom Clancy universe at iconic locations in the midst of technicolor chaos, with maps combining indoor and outdoor environments, ensuring smooth gameplay and unpredictable engagements.
Personalized Playstyle and more!
Ubisoft’s new game looks forward to enhancing player’s experience with additional features. Some of them are:
- Personalized Playstyle: Players can customize their Defiant to match their preferred style of play. Players can select a faction with distinct traits, abilities, and ultra, then choose from a plethora of primary and secondary weapons, attachments, and a device to complete their loadout – and even tweak it on the fly (after respawning) to adapt to an ever-changing battlefield.
- Diverse Defiant’s Factions: Initially, XDefiant will feature factions such as the Wolves (from Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon), Echelon (from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell), and Outcasts and Cleaners (from Tom Clancy’s The Division) battling across iconic locations. As the game progresses, more Defiants will be added, drawing on a variety of characters and abilities from the Tom Clancy universe… and beyond.
- Competitive Clashes: Domination and Escort are two of the game’s competitive 6-v-6 arena and linear game modes. When you combine that with a large pool of unique maps in rotation, no two matches will feel the same.
XDefiant will be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 as well as on Stadia, Luna, and Ubisoft Connect, with full cross play expected at launch. Players can register for upcoming news, information, and beta tests on the game’s website, which will begin on August 5.
