What were the top-selling games of 2019?

Most people have turned the page on 2019, but we’re looking back thanks to a new report from NPD detailing the top-selling games of the year.

In the United States, video game hardware, software, and accessories managed $14.581 billion in sales for the year, which is down from $16.695 billion in 2018. That’s not terribly surprising, considering the games that came out. Games like God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were released in 2018.

The bottom line is that gamers are starting to turn their attention to the next generation. The market-leading PS4 has seen hardware sales slump, barely topping 3 million units sold globally in the last three months of 2019 compared to 8.1 million units sold during the same period the year prior.

As you can see, the charts have a ton of sports games and games from previous years. Surprisingly, a couple of major releases didn’t even crack the top 20: Death Stranding and The Outer Worlds.
