While Nintendo Switch is a popular console, you can’t play GTA 5 on it. Here are some possible reasons why GTA 5 is not on Nintendo Switch.
The size of the game
The internal disk space of a Nintendo Switch is only 32 GB. A user can easily get more disk space by purchasing microSDHC or microSDXC cards, but the internal storage may be a reason for GTA 5 not being on Switch. Grand Theft Auto V is a huge game at a whopping 60 GB. If you consider the Premium Edition, it’s nearly a hundred gigabytes. Clearly, there’s no way of installing this beast of a game on a Switch with 32 GB of disk space unless you have extra storage.
Maybe Rockstar has the ability to port it to the Switch, but that obviously would take time and effort. Because they’re already earning a lot of money because of the newer-gen versions and other purchases of the game, they probably aren’t interested in porting it to Switch. Plus, they likely did market research indicating that the game would not sell enough to justify the port.
Nintendo Switch is a last-gen console
As you probably know, the next-gen version of GTA 5 got released for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. Unlike those two platforms, Nintendo doesn’t have a Switch console that’s able to handle next-gen games. In fact, the Nintendo Switch is a last-gen console that only competes with the PS4 and the Xbox One. Because Rockstar already did a re-release for the next-gen consoles, it’s highly unlikely that they will port the game to a last-gen console.
A next-gen Nintendo Switch?
There have been rumors of a next-gen Nintendo Switch console. That could either be Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch Pro. Trusted sources say that Nintendo has in fact stopped the process of making a Nintendo Switch Pro. But nonetheless, we’re still going to get a new Nintendo console that will be able to run next-gen games. Hopefully, it will be Nintendo Switch 2. And obviously, since it is a next-gen console, it probably will have the ability to run games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V quite easily. But that’s simply speculation.
Nintendo recently announced the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. And it’s safe to expect that they may also announce a new console in the near future.
At the moment, however, there is no way to play GTA 5 on the Nintendo Switch, unfortunately.
