Why the Resident Evil Remakes are some of the best remakes
Let’s discuss why the highly acclaimed Resident Evil remakes are some of the best video game remakes of this generation.
So far, Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 have been released. They have received praise and continue to do so.
Because of how similar in scope the first Resident Evil remake was, we’ll not discuss it in detail. The camera angle was the same and it was a good game for its time of release in 2002. But we will focus on the newer remakes of recent years in this article.
First of all, let’s talk about the differences between the original Resident Evil 2 of 1998 and the 2019 remake of the same name.
Resident Evil 2

The Resident Evil 2 Remake of 2019 was the first RE game that was remade for current-gen consoles and PC. The differences between the two games are vast, and when you compare them, some people may not even be able to point out that these are, in fact, related games.

The gameplay perspective of 1998’s Resident Evil 2 featured a fixed camera angle which made the game very linear and even hard to control sometimes. At the time, the gameplay of RE2 was next to revolutionary. But by today’s standards, a fixed camera angle wouldn’t be a very favorable way to play.
That’s especially true considering that the newer Resident Evil games (the first-person ones and the third-person games since Resident Evil 4) utilize newer technologies when it comes to gameplay perspectives and camera angles.

The Resident Evil 2 Remake’s take on the gameplay perspective completely changed the game for the better. Other than the fixed camera angle of the 1998 original, this time RE2 featured a third-person camera angle. The environments were not scenes that were pre-set but were instead dynamic and immersive.
In my opinion, this is one of the most important features of the remake. And as you’d want from a remake of a classic, RE2 2019 featured vastly improved visuals and audio. Minor changes to the gameplay were also introduced. For example, the gas station section of gameplay was not present in the original. Instead, it was a cutscene.

Another important part of Resident Evil 2 Remake is how it has preserved the vibe of the original. The game felt very much like Resident Evil and it was all the more horrifying because of the immersive environments and the slow but tense gameplay.
In essence, Resident Evil 2 Remake has everything someone would expect from a good remake. It’s perfect in every way and it didn’t get anything wrong.
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 3 Remake didn’t receive as much love as RE2 did. This is mainly because the original Resident Evil 3 was not as popular and well-received as the second game.

The RE 3 Remake featured many of the same things that made the RE2 Remake great. The visuals looked the same, and the gameplay felt the same. But that’s in no way a bad thing.
As we discussed in the previous section, the improvements of Resident Evil 2 Remake were substantial and perfect when compared to the original. It’s no surprise that Capcom would use the same assets to remake the third game. But what made it inferior to the RE2 Remake was that the original game (RE3) was also less appealing than the original RE2.
Overall, Resident Evil 3 Remake is a game that’s worth playing, especially if you’re a fan of this iconic horror franchise.
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4 Remake was released in March 2023. It has received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

First, let’s talk about how great, iconic, and popular the original Resident Evil 4 was. Released in 2005 on the Nintendo GameCube, RE4 was a landmark in the survival-horror genre. It’s the first Resident Evil game that utilized the third-person camera angle, and it was revolutionary.

As was the original RE4, the remake will also be different from the previous remakes of the franchise. RE4’s graphics are more or less equal to that of Resident Evil 8: Village.

It’s easy to notice the vast improvements to the gameplay and the visuals alike. The game looks marvelous, both in terms of gameplay and visuals. Every character looks substantially more detailed and these visual improvements are even better than those of the previous two remakes.
Fans of the original have a lot of reasons to like this game. As of now, Resident Evil 4 Remake is the best Resident Evil remake to date. The reputation of the original game of 2005 also promotes players’ interest in the remake.
