Wii, DS Dominate May 08 Sales; PS3 Beats 360

Nintendo is on a roll. Only one month since January 2007 has a next-gen console beaten the Wii. That was September 2007, the launch of Halo 3, when Microsoft managed to outperform Wii by a mere 26,000 units. Fast forward nearly a year later. For the month of May 2008, Wii remains the top selling console for the 8th month in a row. Xbox 360 has dropped to 4th in the overall sales charts and PS3 is the #2 console for the month of May 2008.

2. DS – 452,000
3. PS3 – 208,000
4. Xbox 360 – 186,000
5. PSP – 182,000

Yet again, not all news is bad in the land of Microsoft. Just as last month, Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 was the top selling game in the United States. They continue to prove that the Xbox 360 can sell software. But GTA IV was the only Xbox 360 title in this month’s top 10. Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit flexed their muscle at nearly 800,000 and 700,000 a piece. GTA IV for PS3 managed 4th with over 400,000 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl remains in the charts for the third straight month at 6th. Guitar Hero 3 for Wii continues to keep on rocking and a pair of Nintendo DS Pokemon Dungeon games round out the top 10.
