Wii, DS Top February 2008 Sales; PS3 Outsells 360

After a post-holiday lull in which none of the systems sold 300,000 units in January, three systems passed that milestone in the month of February. Nintendo regained a dominant position on the charts for the month with nearly 50 percent of hardware share. The PlayStation 2 returned with a vengeance as well, outperforming the PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP. For the second straight month PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360. Rounding out the top sellers was the PlayStation Portable.

1. Nintendo DS – 587,600
2. Wii – 432,000
3. PS2 – 351,800
4. PS3 – 280,800
5. Xbox 360 – 254,600
6. PlayStation Portable – 243,100

Call of Duty 4 continued its run as the top selling game, but just barely. If you factor in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Devil May Cry 4, they outsold Call of Duty 4 for Xbox 360 and PS3. Devil May Cry 4 for Xbox 360 was just 1,000 short of Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360) alone. Not to be outdone, the PS3 version sold an impressive 233,500 units. Guitar Hero 3 for Wii remained on the charts and reemerged for PS2 (the Xbox 360 version dropped out of the charts). Entering the charts this month were Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games for Nintendo DS, Lost Odyssey and the next-gen Turok.

1. Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360) – 296,200
2. Devil May Cry 4 (Xbox 360) – 295,200
3. Wii Play (Wii) – 289,700
4. Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) – 233,500
5. Guitar Hero III (Wii) – 222,900
6. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (DS) – 205,600
7. Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) – 203,600
8. Turok (Xbox 360) – 197,700
9. Guitar Hero III (PS2) – 183,800
10. Rock Band (Xbox 360) – 161,800
