Wii Tops PS3 and Xbox 360 in January Sales

It’s hard to believe with the numbers that Nintendo’s Wii has been putting up that it has not yet seen a #1 month on the NPD United States sales charts for game hardware. That changed in January when the system sold 436,000 units, putting it firmly in the #1 spot against rival next-gen systems. Globally, the Wii has topped 5 million units to date.

Following the Wii was not a next-gen system at all, but Sony’s seven year old PlayStation 2. The PS2 sold a respectable 299,000 units for the month. Rounding out the sales charts for January 2007 were the Xbox 360 in third with 294,000 units sold and PlayStation 3 in fourth with 244,000 units sold.
