Will Rockstar show a GTA VI trailer during today’s PlayStation Showcase?

Some leaks and statements from Strauss Zelnick suggest that we could see GTA VI.

No need to explain all the hype behind GTA VI. Even after the leaks, the hype has grown even more. But, Rockstar, not only wants to deliver a mind-blowing product but to surprise us with the magnitude of the game. And while this seems a long way off, we may get our first official look at the game today. How does a GTA VI trailer during today’s PlayStation Showcase sound?

Strauss Zelnick, in an exclusive podcast interview, talked about the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. He not only let us know the studio’s commitment to the title but many other things that point to the fact that we could hear about this Rockstar project today at the PlayStation Showcase.

The possible miracle

The PlayStation Showcase will take place today. This event will kick off the Summer Game Fest and there is a lot of anticipation behind it. Not only because we will see what’s coming in the future of PlayStation, but also because one of the partners of the Summer Game Fest is Rockstar.

Rockstar, last year, was not part of the list of partners. However, the American company announced downloadable content for GTA V. This year, however, the company is listed. And, if we recall, Rockstar announced GTA V at a PlayStation conference. It’s a game that, despite not being exclusive to PlayStation consoles, was announced at that conference.

If we add this to all the leaks like maps, “final” logos, new data extracted from the infamous giant leak from earlier this year, and more, it leads us to believe that Rockstar may be part of today’s PlayStation Showcase. However, these are all guesses. Many of them were drawn from leaks, but others were drawn from official sources. But what do you mean, official?

Statements by Take-Two CEO

Strauss Zelnick has been part of an exclusive interview for The Aarthi and Sriram Show podcast. In this interview, Zelnick as expected was approached with GTA VI questions. The Take-Two CEO shared that they are working hard on the project. In fact, he also mentioned that they are looking for perfection after all the criticism from the big leak in early 2023.

“I think it’s a challenge that people at Rockstar face every time there’s a new iteration of Grand Theft Auto. On the one hand, it has to be something that’s never been seen before, and on the other hand, it has to reflect how we feel about Grand Theft Auto. It’s a big challenge for the team. Rockstar’s answer is to strive for perfection, nothing less than perfection, and we will achieve it,” Zelnick shared.

In addition, the company has already presented to partners that the next major release of the company would be by the end of 2024. Times that agree with what we can come to understand about what Zelnick shared in the interview that the development has little time left.

However, once again these are assumptions that would lead us to believe that we could be seeing a first glimpse of the game during this PlayStation Showcase.

Possible announcement dates for the game

As previously mentioned, we could be seeing the presentation of the game today. But, apart from today, there are 2 more dates that could coincide with the possible announcement of the title. Twitter user, @GTAVI_Countdown, has shared an image where we can see what these dates are.

The dates that could match the launch of the game are:

  • PlayStation Showcase (Today)
  • GTA V‘s 10th anniversary (September 17)
  • October 2023 (Rockstar’s favored month for marketing new titles)

We cannot officially confirm that GTA VI will be announced on these dates. However, if we follow Rockstar’s announcement patterns and the importance of some dates, it is possible that we will see even a small teaser of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Also, it is worth remembering that Rockstar is working on a major release of a project associated with a franchise of the company. A project apart from the expected GTA VI. Therefore, what we could be seeing today may not be the next installment of Grand Theft Auto, but another Rockstar project. The franchises that sound most promising are Bully, Manhunt (still unlikely), and Max Payne.

However, all these assumptions can be confirmed or discarded after today’s PlayStation Showcase!
