Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Bundle Announced

It wasn’t long ago that we looked back on console bundles as a relic of the 1980s and early 90s. Games like Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog all played a major part in the success of the NES, SNES and Sega Genesis, respectively. That trend of bundling popular games began to fade and was barely employed in this past console generation when PS2 reigned supreme over GameCube and Xbox.

Nintendo’s initial launch of the Wii came with Wii Sports as part of the package. That continues to this day. Both Microsoft and Sony have used bundles to push their hardware out the door. The Xbox 360 has seen several bundles come and go. Among them are a bundle including Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, as well as another that put together Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures and Kung Fu Panda. The PS3 has come bundled (at various points) with Motorstorm, Uncharted, Resistance, Ratchet and Clank and Metal Gear Solid 4.

Microsoft today added another console bundle to their growing list of them for the Xbox 360. Microsoft and Activision are teaming up for the Xbox 360 launch of Modern Warfare 2 with a Limited Edition Console. Beginning on November 10, 2009, gamers worldwide can purchase the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition Console with a 250GB hard drive, two Xbox 360 wireless controllers, a headset and a standard edition copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for an estimated retail price of $399.99.

“It’s the highest compliment to the team and our fans to have a special themed Xbox 360 console,” said Vince Zampella, CEO of Infinity Ward. “The precision and detail that’s been put into the console captures the intensity and feel of ‘Modern Warfare 2.’ We can’t wait for our community and fans around the world to see for themselves on November 10.”

Not to be outdone, Sony is reportedly prepared to launch a bundle of the rumored 250GB PS3 Slim with a copy of the highly anticipated Uncharted 2. According to Engadget, the Uncharted 2 bundle could ship as early as the game’s launch in mid-October. Unlike the Modern Warfare 2 bundle, the Uncharted 2 bundle is yet to be confirmed. No price has been mentioned, although competitively pricing it at $399.99 would make a lot of sense.
