Yakuza: Like a Dragon release date set; PS5 version delayed until March

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Today, Sega shifted the launch date of Yakuza: Like a Dragon to match the Xbox Series X and S launch. Meanwhile, the PS5 version does not come out until 2021.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon launches on November 10, 2020 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The game supports a free next-gen upgrade from Xbox One to Xbox Series X via Smart Delivery.

PlayStation 5 owners have to wait until March 2, 2021. However, Sega confirmed that players who buy a digital PS4 version will get a free upgrade to the PS5 version starting on March 2.

My Take

Given that Yakuza has traditionally been on PlayStation consoles first, it’s surprising that the PS5 version will not be ready in November. Although Sega has given Xbox some love lately, adding Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 to Xbox Game Pass.

Still, that being said, the PlayStation 5 already has a pretty strong launch lineup. So it’s not going to be the end of the world, although some fans may be disappointed with the relatively short delay. At least Sega just released new PS5 footage to tide us over.
