7 Most Promising Upcoming Souls-like Games

These are some of the most promising upcoming Souls-like games to Look forward to in late 2023 and beyond.

After Demon’s Souls revolutionized the action RPG genre back in 2009, the new “Souls-like” subgenre has been dominating the video game industry in numerous ways. With the release of FromSoftware’s latest game, Elden Ring, the popularity of the genre has only been amplified even more.

In this list, I will list a number of Souls-like games that will satisfy any fan of the genre.

Lies of P

One of the most well-known upcoming games of 2023, Lies of P is a unique game that combines Souls-like elements with one of the most popular stories of all time which is Pinocchio.

In this game, you play as Pinocchio himself. There’s a feature in the game to be truthful or lie. It seemingly plays a huge role in the game’s narrative and progression.

The game world is reminiscent of Bloodborne. As it is not available for PC yet, this game ought to fill the Bloodborne-shaped void in PC players.

Lies of P will release on September 19, 2023.

Blasphemous 2

Blasphemous is one of my favorite 2D Metroidvania games, ever, and the announcement of the sequel excites me immensely. If you haven’t played the first game yet, I highly recommend it.

Because Blasphemous was a huge success, it’s only natural for players to hope that the sequel will be even more exciting. It features brutal and satisfying combat, challenging puzzles and platforming, and mind-blowing lore.

Blasphemous 2 launches on August 14, 2023.

Lords of the Fallen

In 2014, one of the first Souls-like games emerged, and that was Lords of the Fallen. Its reception was okay at best. The reboot was announced at The Game Awards. The developers are apparently trying to improve upon every downside of the original game and make sure that this delivers a memorable experience.

While its success obviously remains to be seen, the trailers and the footage are very promising. Set in a world that’s five times larger than that of the first game, Lords of the Fallen features two worlds that are directly connected. Its enemy design and overall atmosphere look excellent.

I really hope that this will be a worthwhile experience. It will release on October 13, 2023.

Black Myth: Wukong

This is another game that you might have heard of. Game Science’s Black Myth: Wukong was announced a while ago, and it’s now set to release sometime in 2024.

The game is based on the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West. You play as the titular protagonist, Wukong. Sun Wukong is known as the Monkey King in Chinese mythology.

The gameplay consists of fast-paced and satisfying combat with a staff, and there are a lot of unique enemies that are based on creatures from Chinese mythology. Many people are expecting a lot from this game, and I hope that it will deliver a fantastic experience.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Best Upcoming Souls-like Games to Look Forward to

Hollow Knight was a highly-acclaimed Metroidvania Souls-like with polished combat and platforming. Truth be told, I have only played the first game for a few hours, but I recognized that it was a great game.

Silksong is its highly anticipated sequel that, unfortunately, has been delayed. It was set to release in early-2023 but it seems that now it will maybe release in late 2023 or even 2024.

Despite the delay, it looks worth waiting for. If you’re a fan of satisfying 2D platformer gameplay and atmospheric visuals, this game and the first game are definitely for you. You can wishlist it on Steam.

Enotria: The Last Song

Best Upcoming Souls-like Games to Look Forward to

This is a unique Souls-like game that’s not very well known… yet. It’s set in a beautiful and vibrant world that’s inspired by the culture of Italy. The setting alone is quite different from many other Souls-likes.

While we have little information available on the game, its gameplay reveals showed promise, and I expect a great experience once this game releases. Unfortunately, there is no definite release date, as of yet.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn

Best Upcoming Souls-like Games to Look Forward to

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn reminded me of GreedFall at first. In this game, you face gods and challenge them, armed with magic, blades, and of course guns. Like Enotria, the world is quite vibrant and pleasant. From the gameplay trailer, it seems like the combat will be fast-paced and varied, with a plethora of various stylish skills and effective tools. It’s set to release in 2024.
