Armored Core VI announced at The Game Awards 2022

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon

The return of Armored Core could mean the return of major mecha games to Western audiences.

Just when we thought the conferences were over for this year, The Game Awards 2022 arrived. The renowned game journalist, Geoff Keighley, has given us this year’s awards full of announcements and exclusive global reveals. Although there were some great announcements, such as Death Stranding 2 from Hideo Kojima, FromSoftware is the one that surprised the audience.

Many people were expecting another release of the Souls saga or the long-awaited Sekiro 2. But, the Japanese developer has presented its new game: Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The return of a classic mecha saga will arrive on all platforms in 2023 and aims to make mecha games popular once again.

The great return after 11 years

For many young gamers, the name Armored Core may seem unfamiliar. Since 2012, we do not have a game from this incredible saga. Moreover, the 2012 release of Armored Core V for PS3 and Xbox 360 was not entirely positive. Therefore, at the time, it was considered the end of mecha games in the Western market.

Although there have been great titles like Titanfall that sought to return mecha games to this market, they could not. This is why the announcement of the return of the Armored Core franchise is very important. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is owned by FromSoftware. It’s a studio that has made during the last years incredible games of the Souls genre that have proven popular in different markets.

Despite the fact that during The Game Awards they only revealed a cinematic trailer, it is clear that FromSoftware will use everything they have learned in their latest releases in this new game. Although the game will come from the previous generation of consoles, possibly there will be an update that will take advantage of the performance of the new generation consoles and PC. The most difficult task is to reintroduce mecha games and this amazing saga to the Western market.

Besides yesterday’s announcement, FromSoftware has not given any further information regarding the game. What we have confirmed is that the game will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2023.

Do you think this game will finally mark the comeback of mecha games or will it not have the same success as the studio’s last games? Let us know your opinion on the forums!
