Is Resident Evil 4 Remake worth buying?

Is Resident Evil 4 Remake worth buying? This enhanced and completely revamped version of the legendary survival-horror game that revolutionized the genre was one of the most anticipated titles in recent memory.

Without delving any deeper into the topic, I will say this: Yes, Resident Evil 4 Remake is 100% worth buying. This game is one of the greatest remakes of the current generation and you will absolutely love it, whether you’re a returning player from the original or a newbie to the franchise. Let’s see why this remake is so good.

PC Optimization

Let’s talk about one of the things that are lacking in many modern PC game releases, that’s present in Resident Evil 4 Remake. In simple words, this remake is greatly optimized for the PC platform and its system requirement are quite reasonable.

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 560 / Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 / Intel Core i5-7500.
  • RAM: 8GB.
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
  • DirectX: DX12.

If your PC meets these minimum requirements, it’s possible for you to experience the game with 30 FPS at 1080p resolution on Low settings with AMD FSR enabled. Now, playing on Low may sound off-putting at first; and the limited FPS of 30 even more so. But this game looks astounding, and it remains so on the lowest settings.

I believe that a low-to-medium-end PC in 2023 must have at least a GTX 1650 SUPER or a Radeon RX 5500 XT, with 4 GB of VRAM, minimum. On a setup with either of those affordable and great GPUs, you can experience this game with more than 40 FPS on Custom High Settings.

The Power of the RE Engine

Resident Evil 4 Remake was developed with the RE Engine, which was originally designed for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard back in 2014. Since then, this engine has constantly been improved and revamped. Great games like Resident Evil 2 Remake (which also looked mind-blowing), Devil May Cry 5, and Resident Evil Village was developed with this engine. Each of these titles only looks better and better with the updated versions of this engine. Resident Evil 4 boasts the power and capability of the RE Engine at its best. It looks amazing and the game’s atmosphere is second to none.

This engine will also be used for the development of Dragon’s Dogma II. Be sure to read our story on how Capcom can make Dragon’s Dogma 2 one of the best RPGs of 2023.

The graphics are some of the best of 2023

The remake looks better in every single way, compared to the original. That’s quite obvious. Resident Evil 4 features substantially better lighting, both in interiors and exteriors, along with extremely high-fidelity textures, shadows and effects; all of these are remade. Not to mention the Ray-Tracing capability with RTX GPUs. The character models also look simply astounding. Honestly, the improvements to the graphics are better explained using images.

The game features all new additions to the environments

There are more objects, foliage, weather effects, architecture and much more in the remake. Like the previous Resident Evil Remakes, this game isn’t simply an overhaul; it features additions that complement what made the original game so good. With these new visual effects and objects, Resident Evil 4 is perfected. The aforementioned lighting and textures apply to all of these new objects and effects. Some areas in the game look quite different while remaining true to the atmosphere of the original.

Some characters and enemies also feature new outfits and looks. However, these changes do not stray far from the original designs, thus remaining faithful to returning players.

Overhauled animations and physics effects

The movement of the protagonist and every other enemy looks more natural and human. In cutscenes, the completely revamped facial expressions are quite noticeable. These updates to animations and physics also apply to the environments and the combat. Plus, there are weather and climate effects that are also fully animated.

The Combat System and the Gameplay have received mind-blowing improvements

With new items and even some weapons, combat has received great improvements. The guns now sound better and the hit reactions of enemies are very realistic. Like the original game, your weapons can be upgraded to a great degree with attachments. Alongside the new combat additions and a completely overhauled weapon system, your knife also has received a complete makeover. You can now parry enemy attacks with the knife and use it to eliminate downed enemies. Animations for killing weakened enemies and Leon’s signature kick attacks have also received updates that make them very fluid and satisfying.

Dodging enemy attacks and countering is very satisfying because of the fluid animations, and the combat doesn’t cease to be extremely fun. Boss fights and encounters with powerful enemies have received new additions that range from improved animations to even cutscenes.

Crouching has been introduced and you can effectively use this new mechanic in stealth as well as combat. Avoiding enemy projectiles by crouching is now possible and it’s satisfying to pull off.

Alongside the aforementioned additions and improvements, the game features many more elements that complement the combat and the gameplay.
