Video game Jack-o-lanterns will make your Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Love video games, Halloween, and Jack-o-lanterns? These video game Jack-o-lanterns draw inspiration from games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Sea of Thieves.

You may not know this, but jack-o-lanterns actually originated in Ireland. The practice of carving pumpkins comes from an Irish tradition of carving turnips and potatoes. Irish immigrants brought the tradition to the United States where pumpkins were readily available for easy carving. The rest is history.

Anyway, nowadays pumpkins are the medium of choice for Halloween revelers. Jack-o-lanterns are about as synonymous with Halloween as the Christmas tree is with Christmas. Just as with video games, they allow us to express ourselves creatively, so it is kind of natural to combine the two art forms.

This Halloween, companies and fans are sharing their best Jack-o-lanterns on Twitter. We thought that we would share some of them with you!

Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog Jack-o-Lanterns

Sonic the Hedgehog is still a favorite of gamers everywhere. That’s thanks in part to childhood nostalgia and also the recently successful movies. There’s also a new game, Sonic Frontiers, launching next month.

In terms of video game Jack-o-Lanterns, we thought that Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog came out on top. Check it out!

Call of Duty

Call of Duty probably isn’t a game that lends itself too well to Jack-o-lanterns, but Treyarch managed nonetheless. They even shared a cymbal monkey pumpkin carving template so that you can make your own. How thoughtful!

Sea of Thieves

The next two examples come from fans. You may not realize it, but Sea of Thieves fans are dedicated. This fan attempted the game’s pirate legend symbol.

And then there’s this work of art from @WoodOxen:

Fallout

Okay, this one is kind of cheating. Bethesda used a traditional Jack-o-lantern and put a Vault Boy figure inside of it. We still found it cute though, so we’re going to share it!
