Video Game Rip-Offs That Are Hilariously Bad

When an innovative game releases, many other developers attempt to copy them. Most of the time, they fail miserably. These are some of the many video game rip-offs that are hilariously bad.

Final Combat

The game’s name itself is kind of cheesy. Final Combat was a direct rip-off of the eternally great Team Fortress 2. A Chinese game developer made this game and it was online only.

The reason why this game was talked about at all in the West is because of how the developers so clearly plagiarised Team Fortress 2, and just how bad it was overall. Don’t play this game.

Quantum Theory

Video Game Rip-offs that are hilariously bad

This game is a rip-off of the Gears of War franchise. At first glance, anyone who’s played Gears of War before could say that this is a blatant rip-off of the iconic franchise. The visuals look alike, and the combat is literally Gears of War… except not very good.

Metacritic gave Quantum Theory a 37 out of 100, and almost each and every review of this game is negative. It’s a game that’s best forgotten. (Actually, we had forgotten about it until thinking about games to include in this list!)

Rogue Warrior

The first time I played Rogue Warrior was the last time I played it. It is a rip-off of Call of Duty and the game is really, really bad. The enemy AI is garbage, the character is cringeworthy and cheesy, and the combat is boring.

This game was actually published by Bethesda. Let that sink in a minute. The story existed but it would’ve been better if it didn’t. The visuals didn’t do the game any favors either. Avoid this like the plague!

Final Sword

Final Sword is a rip-off of the brilliant Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. At first, this game was notorious for literally stealing the music of The Legend of Zelda, and that should tell you that this really is a despicable attempt at ripping off a game.

As if the downright annoying combat is not bad enough, Final Sword requires you to grind like there’s no tomorrow. The UI looks like it was designed by me, who’s not at all experienced in game development. It is a very bad game.

Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta

Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta

I actually played Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta just before writing this article. The most fun I had was when I uninstalled it.

You might’ve guessed from the name that this is a rip-off of the popular Uncharted franchise. The main character kind of looks like Nathan Drake if he was ugly.

This game was made by a Saudi Arabian developer named Semaphore, and it’s all you’d expect from a cheap knock-off of a popular game. It has got a whopping 11% on Metacritic which should explain to you how bad it is.

Unearthed actually reminded me of that meme where a kid asks, “Mother, can we have [insert game name]?” And the mother replies, “We have [insert game name] at home.” This is the said game at home. Don’t play this.
