It works as a standalone game that uses the existing files from your Elden Ring installation. That means that your vanilla saves or characters will not be affected by this mod. Essentially, you’ll have two copies of the game: vanilla Elden Ring and Convergence.

Gameplay

Why You Should Play Elden Ring Convergence

Let’s first talk about how the Convergence Mod affects the gameplay of Elden Ring. In terms of basic changes, Convergence alters and tweaks an almost innumerable number of things with the game, ranging from weapon damage to enemy stats.

But what’s most impressive about the gameplay changes would probably be the new progression system.

Class-based Progression

In vanilla Elden Ring, we were given the chance to choose a class at the beginning of the game. But the extreme level of freedom Elden Ring offers us made choosing a class only something that determined how the first few hours of our experience felt.

While the same level of freedom is present in The Convergence, it has a much stronger emphasis on class-based progression. There are weapons that belong to certain classes.

The Convergence also introduces a great number of new, unique classes to the game for this reason. After you pick a class, it’s best to stick with it. However, it is possible to adopt another class entirely through gameplay.

I picked the Dreadnought class which focuses on heavy armour and defence. The starting location for each class is completely different. For example, the Dreadnought starts in Liurnia, near the highway.

You also get two in-game documents that describe your class better. These documents speak about armor sets and weapons that work best for each class.

Weapons and Armor

Now that we’re on the subject of equipment, it’s time to talk about the many brand-new sets of armor and weapons you can find and purchase in the Convergence. Some of these items are edited versions of ones from the vanilla games, and some look completely new.

The Dreadnought has access to the Dreadnought armor set at the beginning of the game. It looks quite beautiful with its engravings and new color scheme. It fits a knight very well.

I mentioned earlier how some documents tell us about certain pieces of equipment that are suitable for our class. These documents also provide us with the location of these items, which is quite helpful.

Upgrading the weapons in Convergence uses smithing stones, not unlike the vanilla game.

Locations

In the “Class-based progression” sub-topic, I mentioned how each class starts in a unique location. Indeed, many unique places that were never seen before in the vanilla game are now present in Convergence.

Aside from that, many existing caves, dungeons, and outposts have been tweaked, altered, and expanded. Each of these locations may have enemies and bosses you haven’t encountered before, and they will also house various items.

Items

There are many new spells, too.

Many items that were essential but located in various different locations in the vanilla game are now accessible from the very beginning of The Convergence. For example, the Spectral Steed whistle – which summons Torrent – and the Mixed Physick flask.

There are new items that are authentic to the Convergence, too. You can find some of them scattered around in the world and some bosses may drop them.

You can also craft items without searching for cookbooks anymore, and crafting is also available in combat.

Enemies and Bosses

Why You Should Play Elden Ring Convergence

Another fantastic aspect of the Convergence is the number of new enemies and bosses present in the Lands Between. Not only some enemies’ placement is altered, but you can also find new foes and bosses in unique locations and expanded dungeons.

Story and Lore

The story and the lore remain as is. And considering how this mod is non-canon, the main focus of it is gameplay. Not quests or lore. So you can safely disregard the story of The Convergence because you’ve already experienced it in its original and intended form in the vanilla game.

And again, I recommend against playing The Convergence if you haven’t completed the vanilla game at least once. I myself only played it after obtaining all the achievements in the game and having nearly 300 hours of playtime.
