In a developer update on crowdsourcing site Fig, Double Fine Productions says that Psychonauts 2 is still coming to all platforms, including PS4.
The clarification was needed because Microsoft acquired the publishing rights to the game with their purchase of Double Fine Studios, which was announced at E3. Double Fine is one of seven developers that Microsoft has bought and folded into Xbox Game Studios in the past year.
In other news, Double Fine Productions confirmed to funders that Psychonauts 2 is indeed being delayed until 2020. In a plea for patience, the company writes:
We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand!
The game – which was announced in 2015 and originally planned for a release in 2018 – is now facing its second delay after securing nearly $4 million in funding from fans. The good news, of course, is that this gives them more time to iron out any kinks in the game. The bad news is that backers will have to wait until 2020.
