While the Xbox 360 might be struggling in Japan, the Nintendo DS definitely is not. It’s the hottest system on the market right now with a total of over 5 million units in Japan, nearly 4 million in North America and now European numbers are coming in at 3.5 million. At the current rate, Nintendo DS sales should easily surpass that of its console brother, the GameCube, by this time next year for which estimates put it in the 20 million range. Software is also hot with Europeans buying 1.6 million copies of Nintendogs. Mario Kart DS has also enjoyed success in Europe with 800,000 copies sold since launch.
