Elric of Melniboné video game announced

Elric of Melniboné

Following Runatyr’s acquisition of the rights to Elric of Melniboné, we will see a classic character from fantasy literature come to life.

Elric of Melniboné, one of fantasy literature’s most recognizable heroes, will have a narrative action computer game based on the first six volumes of the Elric saga, according to Swedish company Runatyr. The video game project is in collaboration with Aurora Punks and Upstream Arcade.

Elric will come to life in this new title

The video game, titled Elric of Melniboné, will be the first audiovisual adaptation of the original epic dark fantasy tale that has had an immense influence on the genre as a whole. The book series has influenced IPs such as Warhammer, The Witcher, Game of Thrones, and House of the Dragon in particular. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the character from influential fantasy and science fiction writer Michael Moorcock.

“For many years I have looked forward to seeing Elric translated into a state-of-the-art video game and at last it looks as if Runatyr are going to bring that dream to fruition. I am sure they will make the best game possible!” said Michael Moorcock after confirming that he has taken a liking to the story told within the game.

Developed in a collaborative effort by senior developers behind major industry titles, the game is planned for a 2024 release on PC and consoles. Moorcock confirms that he will be involved in the game’s development.
