Nintendo Revises Wii, DS Hardware Numbers Up

Happy days continue in the land of Nintendo as the company just announced today that Nintendo Wii’s hardware sales projections are being shifted upward. The company says that it has sold 9.27 million units as of the end of June, roughly seven months after its November 2006 launch. That puts it less than a million units behind the Xbox 360, which launched in November 2005.

On the handheld side, the Nintendo DS has managed to sell 47.27 million units worldwide as of the end of June. That gives Nintendo an almost 2-to-1 lead against Sony’s PlayStation Portable. Nintendo’s shipment projections for the Nintendo DS for the year have been revised to 26 million from 22 million and the Wii has been revised to 16.5 million from 14 million. That would put the Wii over 20 million units total by March 31, 2008.
