Phil Spencer says Microsoft may let users disable Quick Resume on Xbox Series X|S

Gamers may soon be able to disable Quick Resume on their Xbox Series X consoles.

Microsoft has touted the Quick Resume feature ever since Xbox Series X launched back in November 2020. (Actually, they hyped it months before launch too.) However, fans want an option to disable it since it can cause issues with online-only games.

“I still don’t understand how it’s not a feature you can disable, it’s amazing for a lot of games but when it tries to quick resume an online-only game it absolutely breaks it and you have to manually quit. If only an option to disable it for such games existed!” writes Twitter user @GabeTC99.

Phil Spencer says it might happen

Xbox boss Phil Spencer directly replied to the tweet. He called the suggestion a “good feature ask” that “makes sense.” He adds that he’ll “put it on the list of things to look at.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Quick Resume, the feature allows players to pick up multiple games from a suspended state, returning you to where you were and what you were doing without waiting on long load screens. It’s all thanks to the console’s internal SSD.

It’s a great feature for single-player, narrative-driven video games. Of course, it stinks when it breaks online-only games. A fix is definitely needed.

My Take

I’ve experienced this problem personally with games like Outriders. It’s really annoying to select a game from the Xbox dashboard only to have to close the game due to Quick Resume breaking. Please make this option a reality, Microsoft!
