This is a guide on how to obtain Basic Tools in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GAMMA. For some reason, Basic Toolsets are some of the rarest items in the game. In order to craft and repair many items, they are essential.
Unfortunately, there are no definite locations that have these Basic Toolkits. In this guide, I will explain a few ways that you can get your hands on one. Spoiler: it won’t be easy.
Jobs
If you’re a beginner to this unforgiving survival-horror game, you must start your game as a Loner in the Rookie Village in the Cordon. This is an area you will be very familiar with if you’re a veteran Stalker who has played the original trilogy.
There are three characters in this village that offer simple fetch quests and kill quests that grant decent rewards – namely, Wolf, Fanatic, and Sidorovich. The majority of these missions are set in the Cordon and you won’t have to travel outside just yet.
Note that every other random, insignificant Stalker may have quests for you as well. Talk to everyone and do every quest that seems simple enough.
They will offer you hunting quests, rescue missions, and kill quests. You will have to rely on your starting weapons for these missions because you will not find a good gun at the beginning of the game.

Complete as many jobs as possible and earn enough money. You will have more than 20000 Rubles with you in no time because these jobs pay well for a rookie.
On these quests, be sure to loot everything you kill. Especially, when you kill bandits, loot their patches because there are many quests that require you to turn in these patches for great rewards.
The Northern Farm is another location where you can find a few good jobs from random Stalkers. So check there too.
Stashes
As rewards for completing these quests, you may obtain Stash locations along with the usual cash rewards. Stashes are where you can find Basic Tools. Obtaining a lot of stash locations is essential in order to have a chance at obtaining Basic Tools.
This is where the money you earned comes in handy. Talk to Sidorovich and he will reveal stash locations for 6500 Rubles, each. Buy information about as many stashes as you can because they will never be a waste. Just be sure to save enough money for food, ammo, and other essential supplies.
Note: looting the stashes before getting information on them is useless, as the stashes will be empty.
You will gain more and more experience by doing quests, and you will be ready to head out of the Cordon to loot stashes at the point where you’ve uncovered many stash locations.
The icons for stashes are given below. Loot as many of these as possible. For me, it took about 3 hours of gameplay to find a stash with a Basic Toolkit. It may take longer or less time for you to find your own.

In conclusion, obtaining Basic Tools can be quite tricky in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. GAMMA. After you get your hands on them, keep them with you and avoid selling them or giving them to technicians just yet. It’s cheaper and more efficient to use the toolkits yourself and craft/repair items by yourself.
