Either because of pure strength or intimidation, these guys are not to be messed with. These are the scariest human characters from non-horror games.

I will include only one character per game in order to keep things fresh. Without further ado, let’s proceed to list them down. This list has no particular order.

Legate Lanius (Fallout New Vegas)

Scariest Human Characters from Non-Horror Games

This is one of the characters that originally came to my mind when I thought of writing this article. Legate Lanius, also known as the Monster of the East, is Caesar’s best commander in Fallout New Vegas.

Lanius is an odd man. He doesn’t really care about the Legion at all. Killing and torturing are what he wants. Almost everyone within the ranks of NCR and any other organisation in the Mojave Wasteland is utterly terrified of this terror in human form.

I’d go far as to say that he’s deadlier than a Legendary Deathclaw. His ceaseless bloodlust prevents him from sympathising or feeling sorry or guilty. There’s a saying within the Legion that he doesn’t even flinch when he is attacked or wounded.

In all honesty, he’s not loyal to anyone, possibly not even Caesar. He’s with the Legion because he gets to kill and desecrate without boundaries.

Yosuke Tendo (Yakuza: Like A Dragon)

Scariest Human Characters from Non-Horror Games

First and foremost, Yosuke Tendo is especially notable and intimidating because of his height. He’s 195 cm tall; that is 6’5”. His insanely muscular build is probably thanks to his career in heavyweight boxing.

Tendo doesn’t have to be especially charismatic or persuasive to others because there aren’t many people who’d want to anger him in the slightest. One might expect that a brute like him completely relies on overwhelming power to reach where he wants.

That is only partially true, as he does use his overwhelming strength to wreak havoc on his enemies. But also, he’s calculating and Machiavellian. In nature, he’s power-hungry and even sadistic.

It’s a known secret among the Yakuza that he used to beat people to the death in boxing and that was his dishonourable discharge from his boxing career. At all times, he wears a slight smile on his face and doesn’t give up the chance to engage in battle.

Lord Godfrey/Hoarah Loux (Elden Ring)

It’s quite difficult to believe that Hoarah Loux, or Lord Godfrey, is actually human. He stands at about 13 feet tall, minimum. Despite being extremely heavily built and muscular, this animal in human form is incredibly fast; it’s as if he doesn’t have a limit to stamina.

In his final battle, he proves that he’s an honourable warrior who believes in strength. Godfrey compliments the Tarnished when he defeats the warrior, saying that his “Strength befits a crown”.

His attacks are especially terrifying, as he jumps towards you, shaking the ground before throwing you up into the air, catching you mid-air and power bombing you with inhuman strength. If he kills you with this attack, he will literally rip you apart with his bare hands.

Batman (Batman: Arkham)

Batman is a hero, ultimately, yes. But he’s the worst nightmare of criminals. In the Arkham games, he’s exceedingly violent and brutal.

Every single thug that is armed to the teeth with explosives and guns will shiver in fear as their comrades get incapacitated at regular intervals. Batman’s armoured suit prevents them from killing him with a few shots, too.

In all honesty, the thugs in the Arkham games are simply prey to Batman. It’s even somewhat unusual for a hero to be this terrifying and violent, but Batman just… is. And this nature is what makes every criminal tremble in fear when they see a dark shadow hanging from a gargoyle in the gothic cities of these games.
