Shovel Knight Dig announced

Yacht Club Games revealed a new Shovel Knight adventure today called Shovel Knight Dig.

“As a joint development project between Nitrome and Yacht Club Games, Shovel Knight Dig has been in development for more than a year!” Yacht Club Games announced on YouTube. “It’s got quite a ways to go still, but we wanted to give you a taste of the amazing adventure that Shovel Knight will be embarking on next!”

Shovel Knight Dig presents Shovel Knight in a 16-bit adventure where Drill Knight and his “dastardly digging crew” blast Shovel Knight’s campsite and steal his loot. In response, Shovel Knight grabs his Shovel Blade and digs after them to the center of the Earth.

According to Yacht Club, “every adventure is different.” Shovel Knight Dig levels “have been meticulously crafted, then stitched together using proprietary generation techniques for infinite replayability.”

Other than confirming on their website that the game will be released on the Nintendo Switch, Yacht Club Games has not yet announced all of the platforms. The platforms are listed as “TBD” on the game’s press kit. We also don’t know a price or release date. Sorry!

UPDATE: Sony confirmed on the PlayStation Blog that Dig is coming to PS4.

Shovel Knight was released as an 8-bit indie platformer back in 2014 on PC, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U. It was released on PS4 in 2015. Our reviewer, Cliff Bakehorn, called it “easily the best indie-developed game of 2014.”
