Sony Supports Itself in Hi-Def War

Sony announced today that they would be supporting…themself. In the battle being waged over high-def DVD’s, Sony BMG Music Entertainment today announced its support for the format, promising a wide range of live concerts and music videos from artists such as Usher, Destiny’s Child, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, and The Dave Matthews Band. The shocking announcement (okay, not so shocking) came as the first batch of Blu-ray movies were announced this morning as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Fifth Element, The Guns of Navarone, Hitch and House of Flying Daggers.

“Blu-ray is the future of home entertainment, and the perfect way to bring fans all of the excitement of live performance,” commented Thomas Hesse, President, Global Digital Business, Sony BMG Music Entertainment. “In addition to high resolution images and sound, it offers tremendous flexibility in how they experience entertainment content – from internet connectivity to the seamless integration of bonus features. We look forward to taking advantage of this new format’s range of possibilities as we provide our artists with new ways to connect with their fans.”
