If you are a fan of books or you are into fantasy movies, you already know about the Harry Potter universe. It’s a franchise that, due to its popularity, has made the jump to different industries. Let’s say you’re a Harry Potter fan, and you want to play some games on your Xbox console. What are the best Harry Potter Xbox games?
Since the early 2000s, we have been receiving a long list of adaptations and versions of the universe. There’s even a Quidditch video game! (Sadly, Hogwarts Legacy does not have Quidditch.) That’s why, if you are looking for the best titles in this universe, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve compiled a list of some great choices for your gaming pleasure.
What are the best Harry Potter Xbox games?
Although it’s true that there are some games in the Harry Potter universe, they’re not as plentiful as you might expect. In fact, some of them are pretty bad—or at least not good enough to make our list of the best Harry Potter Xbox games out there.
However, there are a number of great games for Xbox that take place in the world of Harry Potter. The top of the list for us, are these.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a spinoff from the Harry Potter books with likenesses from the films. The game takes place during Harry’s third year at Hogwarts where you will try to solve a mystery involving Sirius Black, who was believed to be an escaped prisoner from Azkaban prison.
The gameplay itself is fairly straightforward: you use your wand to cast spells on enemies, which are mostly Dementors (a type of magical creature). You can also ride on Buckbeak the Hippogriff, which allows you to travel through otherwise impassable areas quickly by simply flying over them.
As far as the story goes, this game will not disappoint fans of JK Rowling’s writing style. It features almost all of your favorite characters from the book (with some exceptions) but doesn’t feel overly long or complicated—it feels just right!
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a video game based on the book and film of the same name. It follows Harry as he continues his studies at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, meets new friends, and faces off against old foes. It was released on PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
The story follows an alternate universe where Voldemort hasn’t returned to power yet; it’s up to you (as Harry) to stop him before that happens. You’ll have plenty of help from Dumbledore, Professor Snape, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger (among others). In addition to completing missions like “follow this person” or “find this thing,” there are also some side quests available if you want a break from saving the world every now and then!
LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7
LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is a video game based in the Harry Potter universe, developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It is the sequel to LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and has a connected story to LEGO Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup (which was released in 2009).
The game features the same style of gameplay as its predecessors; players control characters from across the series books and films as they battle their way through various scenarios in order to progress through the storyline. The game also includes an Adventure Mode, where players can explore Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry within an open-world setting.
Hogwarts Legacy
Although it’s not out yet, we have high hopes for Hogwarts Legacy. This RPG takes place half-century before the universe of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You can customize your own character and choose a house. You can play as a student, and there are more than 80 characters to interact with.
The story will focus on all four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff, each one with its own branch of stories. Although the game has not been released yet, different trailers and gameplay of the game have set the bar very high. Without a doubt, it is considered by many fans as the next big game in the Harry Potter universe.
Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10 of 2023, and it’s going to be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. If you don’t wanna wait until that date, there are many games from the Harry Potter franchise available for you on Xbox like the ones we already mentioned.
While some people prefer playing through the story of Harry Potter, others might prefer something more interactive like LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7. However, if you are looking for an immersive experience full of adventure and magic, then you’ll have to wait for Hogwarts Legacy. It might just be what you’re looking for!
