While shoppers are scrambling for last minute gifts, sales numbers for the month before Christmas are in, revealing a jolly holiday for Nintendo. While Nintendo retained the two top spots, PS3 and Xbox 360 are closing the gap. Wii sales are down nearly a million units, yet it still had breathing room from its two closest competitors.

On the software side of things, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 mopped the floor (as expected), selling a combined six million units across PS3 and Xbox 360. New Super Mario Bros. sold a respectable 1.4 million units (approx.), making it the only other game to top a million for the month on a single platform. Assassin’s Creed II and Left 4 Dead 2 both debuted with sales just shy of 800,000 units for their Xbox 360 versions.
