Apex Legends tops 70 million players

According to a financial report, the free-to-play battle royale game Apex Legends has had 70 million players since it launched in February.

Electronic Arts reported their quarterly earnings today with total revenue up year-over-year for the quarter ending September 30, 2019. The financial report contained the stat about Apex Legends. It should be noted that these numbers are for people who downloaded the game, not active users.

“Looking ahead, we are doubling down on live services combined with our core franchises,” says EA CFO Blake Jorgensen. “We’re investing in games that people play for longer and engage with much more deeply. This focus will continue to drive growth and profitability for the company through the remainder of this year and beyond.”

The free-to-play shooter from Respawn managed to outpace rival Fortnite early on. Apex Legends topped 25 million players in a week versus the 40 days that it took for Fortnite to reach 20 million players.

While Apex Legends appears to be doing well, that explosive growth out of the gate has not led to the toppling of Epic Games’ massive hit. Fortnite stood at nearly 250 million users as of March 2019, putting it miles ahead of Apex Legends.

In his review of the game for Game Freaks 365, Dylan Oliver wrote that Apex Legends is a “breath of fresh air” in the genre. Dylan also put together a list of 10 tips for beginners, which should help you enjoy Season Three.
