Japanese Sales: December 5 – December 11, 2005

Confirmed Xbox 360 Japanese launch sales are in from Media Create and they aren’t good. Xbox 360 had hardware sales of 43,970 units and total software sales of 47,191 units, with an attach rate of 1.07. Following the original Xbox’s launch were hardware sales of 106,867 units and total software sales of 156,601 units, with an attach rate of 1.47. Twenty-one new releases took spots in the top 100, accounting for 49.01% of sales. Top-ranked Rogue Galaxy (PS2), followed by Mario Kart DS and Ryu ga Gotoku, saw strong sales of more than 100,000 units.

Returning in the Top 10 this week are Nintendo DS games Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World and Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon: Blue Rescue. Also returning are Resident Evil 4 (PS2), Monster Hunter Portable (PSP), and Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon: Red Rescue (GBA). Entering the charts this week are Rogue Galaxy, Ryu ga Gotoku, Momotaro Railway and Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop. Absent are all of the Xbox 360’s launch titles.

On the hardware side, as we noted, Xbox 360 sales amounted to 47,191 units. Nintendo DS led the pack, with PSP and PS2 both trailing behind considerably. Xbox 360 placed 4th in the charts with GCN in 5th. Japanese consumers seem unfazed by the Game Boy Micro, which is now being outsold by the GBA SP. Nintendo holds 62.8% market share this week in hardware for its handheld devices, compared to 26.09% for Sony hardware and 8.67% for Xbox 360.
