Nintendo Confirms 3DS Japanese Launch Lineup

Nintendo’s latest handheld, the 3DS, will launch in Japan next month (February 26 to be exact). The system has generated a lot of buzz for its ability to project 3D images without the need for glasses. The number of titles announced at last year’s E3, particularly among third party developers, was also strong.

Now Nintendo has confirmed the launch lineup in Japan. There will be eight titles at launch, only one of which will be a first party game (Nintendogs). The other games include Combat of Giant Dinosaur 3D, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, Puzzle Bobble 3D, Ridge Racer 3D, Samurai Warriors Chronicle, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, and Winning Eleven.

Notably absent from the launch are a number of high profile games: a remake of Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as well as new games for Dead or Alive, Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Kid Icarus, and others. The games will retail between $57-$73 in Japan, $57 being the same price as a regular Nintendo DS game in the country.
