Nintendo will be releasing a black version of their popular Wii system on August 1, 2009 in Japan. As pictured below, the packaging looks quite similar to the glossy white system that Nintendo launched with in 2006. This actually is not much of a surprise as Nintendo routinely releases new colors for their hardware – from the Nintendo 64 to Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. Nintendo had previously released photos of multiple colors for the Wii – including black – ultimately to settle on the white model. No word on whether the system will make its way to North America or Europe, although it seems likely.
