Pac-Man 99 is a new battle royale out now for Nintendo Switch

Pac-Man 99

Bandai Namco has released the battle royale game Pac-Man 99. It is available as a free-to-play game for Nintendo Switch Online members.

40 years have been passed since the classic Pac-Man was released in arcades worldwide. Bandai Namco has brought back the yellow chomping man in a battle royale of 99 players.

Pac is back

As you’d expect, the game consists of eating power pellets to turn the ghosts blue and make them vulnerable. Eat them to send Jammer Pac-Man to your opponents. The more ghosts you eat, the more Jammers you’ll send.

You’ll gain the upper hand by switching between eight different preset strategies: speed up, send extra Jammers, and more. Switching at just the right moment could give you an edge over your rivals. If you manage to be the last Pac-Man standing, you will win the match, but it will not be as easy as it sounds.

Bandai Namco explains to us how to play this crazy battle royale in the release trailer, which we’ve included below:

Custom themes and unlock modes with DLC

Bandai Namco allows players to customize the look of their games. The custom themes are $1.99 each. Here are the themes that are available:

  • Baraduke
  • Bravoman
  • Cosmo Gang The Video
  • Dig-Dug
  • Dragon Buster
  • Galaga
  • The Genji and the Heike Clans
  • The Legend of Valkyrie
  • Namco Classic 1
  • Namco Classic 2
  • Namco Classic 3
  • Namco Classic 4
  • Namco Classic 5
  • New Rally-X
  • The Return of Ishtar
  • Rolling Thunder
  • The Tower of Druaga
  • Wonder Momo

With the Mode Unlock DLC, you can unlock different gameplay modes that completely change your gaming experience. This DLC includes:

  • Private Match: Share the password and play against your friends.
  • CPU Battle: Set the difficulty level and compete against 98 CPU players.
  • Score Attack: Be the fastest to reach a perfect score of 3,333,360 points.
  • Blind Time Attack: Complete all 12 rounds within the time limit.

The Mode Unlock DLC costs a fairly hefty $14.99. Still, the base game is free-to-play, so I guess it’s not that outrageous.

However, if you want to get the DLC plus all of the custom themes available at the same time, Bandai Namco also released a Deluxe Pack. This includes all the paid content available. The Deluxe Pack is $29.99.
