Sega announced today that Sonic the Hedgehog will be an unlockable playable character in the upcoming Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.
“Playing as the world’s fastest hedgehog comes with some unique effects,” Sega says. “In addition to boasting incredible speed (obviously), selecting Sonic automatically changes all stages’ bananas to golden rings, complete with nostalgic, classic sound effects.”
This is the first time ever that Sonic joins the cast of a Super Monkey Ball game. And while I was already looking forward to the game’s launch on October 29, this announcement gets me more excited.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is an enhanced remaster of the 2006 Wii game. It will be released on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. As we previously reported, pre-orders of the game include collectible stickers.
