Sony Confirms Death of the PSP Go

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The fledgling PSP Go handheld, which launched just a little over a year ago and has been met with weak sales, is about to be discontinued. The high cost of the system, lack of a UMD drive, and limited number of downloads (not all of the PSP’s games were available for purchase) doomed the system.

However, a report from Joystiq shortly after news of the discontinuation broke states that the system will continue to be made for America, just not Japan or Europe. The question is for how long as retailers have already been greatly reducing the presence of PSP titles on store shelves. Later this year Sony intends to launch a new handheld, currently known as NGP, which will replace the PSP.
