The Last of Us sold over 20 million copies

The Last of Us Part 2 is just around the corner, and fans are understandably excited. New sales numbers for the original have emerged demonstrating just how popular the first game was when it was released on PS3 and later on PS4.

According to Daniel Ahmad, a senior game industry analyst at Niko Partners, The Last of Us sold more than 20 million units across both platforms. The PS3 version launched in 2013. The PS4 version was released a year later. A specific breakdown by platform was not provided.

Naughty Dog’s success has only grown over time. Ahmad notes that Uncharted 2 sold over 6 million copies on the PS3 prior to the release of the Uncharted Collection on PS4. The most recent game in the franchise, Uncharted 4, has sold 16 million copies to date.
