It is starting to look like Ubisoft is going into a very big decline. The publisher’s latest releases are not getting the desired results. Their games have fewer and fewer active players. And, as if that wasn’t enough, an Axios journalist has revealed two more very bad stories involving Ubisoft.
Three unannounced games from Ubisoft have been canceled completely. On top of this, Skull & Bones has been delayed yet again. But, the worst of this second bit of news is that the release of the game could be extended until 2024.
Is this the beginning of the end for Ubisoft?
A theme that has been present in recent months has been Ubisoft’s bad decisions and cancellations. After the four unannounced projects were canceled in July, it was only a matter of time before the bad news from Ubisoft followed. But, what we’ve learned from journalist Stephen Totilo is cause for concern.
Ubisoft has canceled three more unannounced projects, a decision that was taken due to low sales from the company’s latest releases. Therefore, this serious decision would represent a saving of $200 million for the French company.
According to a Ubisoft rep, all the developers who were working on the seven canceled projects will be distributed among the company’s announced projects and released games. Other positions will simply not get filled once developers leave the company.
But, this is not at all hopeful after the second news shared on Twitter by Totilo. Skull & Bones is once again delayed. The current focus of the game’s development is to launch a beta phase this year, dragging the launch of the game to the end of 2023 or even 2024!
It’s a shame to see a company like Ubisoft fall into decline. A series of bad decisions, scandals, and repetitive game models have resulted in one of the worst periods for the developer. Still, as loyal Ubisoft fans, we have faith in the great unannounced game planned for April, a game that is widely suspected to be Assassin’s Creed Mirage or the so-called Assassin’s Creed Nexus.
