2K Games today announced the release date for the arcade-style brawler WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds piledrives PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One on September 18. The game features a roster of more than 70 WWE Superstars and Legends at launch. Additional Superstars will be released later.

It is being developed by Saber Interactive. The developer says that they are aiming to offer “explosive excitement in an approachable experience for everyone from passionate WWE fans to casual players.”

Game Modes

The game has an Exhibition mode with local and online multiplayer for up to four players. The Campaign mode has you join the adventures of seven upcoming WWE hopefuls that were created specifically for Battlegrounds.

King of the Battleground is a last-man-standing mode where four players start in the ring with four more waiting outside to enter. It puts you through the gauntlet with the objective being to defeat them all.

A partial roster has been released. WWE Superstars include Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Asuka, Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, and Randy Orton. It also includes Legends like Andre the Giant, Undertaker, Mankind, Shawn Michaels, Yokozuna, Sgt. Slaughter, and many more.

Class styles

Each Superstar in WWE 2K Battlegrounds utilizes one of five class styles, and each class style has its own combat moves, strengths, and weaknesses. Choose from the Powerhouse, Technician, High-Flyer, Brawler, and All-Rounder to find the style that works best for you.

Pre-orders are open now at Humble Store, Amazon, and other retailers.

My Take

I have to say, I like this new direction. The WWE game franchise became stale. So seeing them change gears is welcome.
