Lode Runner Legacy coming to PS4 later this month

Lode Runner Legacy

Tozai Games is bringing Lode Runner Legacy to the PS4 on January 29.

The original Lode Runner was first released in 1983 for Apple II, Atari XL/XE, MSX, and Commodore 64. Its frantic and addictive gameplay helped to spawn countless sequels. The platforms include arcade, home console, handheld, mobile, and PC.

Lode Runner Legacy updates the classic game for current systems while “maintaining the spirit of the original.” Legacy is the first Lode Runner series game released in North America on a Sony console since Lode Runner Extra was released in 1997 on the original PlayStation.

In this latest game, players control the Runner, solving puzzles to regain stolen gold from the Evil Empire’s labyrinth. “Each puzzle is a unique challenge to the player’s puzzle-solving and strategic techniques,” Tozai Games says.

The game also features a two-player mode and a craft mode. The original Lode Runner was the first game ever released to include a level editor. So it’s quite fitting that Legacy allows players to create their own original levels, characters, and items, which they can share online.

Lode Runner Legacy will launch for the PlayStation 4 on January 29. It will be available digitally via the PlayStation Store for $11.99. It was previously released on PC and Nintendo Switch. Additionally, German publisher Strictly Limited Games is also releasing a physical limited edition for both PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
