The Last of Us Part II will come in at a hefty 100+ GB

The Last of Us Part II

This week, we learned the new release date for The Last of Us Part II. We’ve also just learned how much space it will eat up on your PS4 hard drive. Hint: It’s a lot.

So how much space will this bad boy require? According to a listing on PlayStation.com, you’ll need at least 100GB of free space. In fact, it’s so massive that the game will come on not one but two separate discs.

GamesRadar speculates that one disc will be used for the install and another to play the game. They add:

This easily makes The Last of Us 2 the biggest PS4 exclusive yet, in terms of its pure size. That makes sense, given the memory required for all those high res textures, the fact that Naughty Dog is pitching it as the most ambitious game its made yet, and that it’s launching at the tail end of the console’s life cycle.

In comparison, Final Fantasy VII Remake clocks in at 86GB, according to a listing on the PlayStation Store. And Rockstar’s smash hit Red Dead Redemption 2 is just under 90GB. So it’s not like it’s disproportionately big compared to other recent AAA releases.

The Last of Us Part II launches on June 19.
